SEO Tools Update

I have made some changes / additions to my SEO Tools page. Check it out.

Great Forums for SEO and Affiliate Information

I have been thinking about posting something like this for a while, and Michael’s comment on the last post brought it back to mind.

If there are those of you looking for free or low cost SEO and Affiliate marketing information, then I would recommend camping out on some forums. There are many tools reference in these forums, and many people who are willing to give a hand to someone who is learning.

Here are a few of my favorites…

http://forums.digitalpoint.com/ - Highly interactive with lots of traffic
http://www.highrankings.com/forum/
http://www.seo-guy.com/forum/ - not as many people there, but some good quality SEO’s hang out here
http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/ - highly popular
http://www.webmasterworld.com/

The only caution that I can offer about camping on forums, is that it can be easy to fall into the “navel gazing” trap. That means that you can spend so much time on these forums, asking questions and responding to posts so much that it can be a time waster (I am speaking from experience here). There needs to be a focused reason why you are going there, and then try what you have learned on your own. Also, be sure to take advice from individuals on forums with a grain of salt. Believe it or not,  there are some people that don’t know squat but pretend like they do just to try and offer advice or get their “post count” up.

Good Content = Great SEO

Now don’t get confused by the title, there is more to search engine optimization than just good quality content.

However, I believe that good content is a key factor in how your site stands out against the rest. Think about it. If you have quality content, are other sites more willing to naturally link to you? Are visitors willing to spend more time on your site, which in turn you can use to capture sales?

Answers to above questions = yes!

This post is a bit convicting, as I know that I have sites out there that I would not be willing to “put out” for review, and their overall performance reflects it. I think I have some work cut out for me.

For me, I find it MUCH easier to write about what I am interested or knowledgeable in. If I am trying to write about a dry topic (insurance = dry topic in my opinion), then I am less likely to write regular or quality content. I find it a chore and I avoid it like the plague. Instead of forcing myself to write content, I hire writers to work on the content for me.

I typically use Elance for posting writing projects and hiring writers.
