Personal Note: New PDA Toy

UTStarcom 6700So here is a look at my new toy. After much consideration on what to get for a PDA / all in one device, I went with the UTStarcom 6700. I needed something that would connect easily to Microsoft Exchange, as we use it at the Trinus office. WIth the new Mobile 5 technology, connecting is a snap. We purchased 8 of these units for our office, and we were all connected “live” to the mail server in an hour. We had considered the Blackberry as well as the Palm platforms, but those technologies required a 3rd party tool to connect properly to the mail server (Exchange). Not to mention that I wanted something with a little more multimedia capabilities (1.3 MPX camera). Windows is always good at plugging in lots of multimedia…now only time will tell how stable the platform is. This new model by UTstarcom came from the Audiovox 6600. I think Audiovox sold the model to them. Anyway, I am off to listen to some podcasts!

Dell 20.1″ Wide Screen - New Toy!

Through Trinus Technologies, one of my companies, I deal with Dell Computers every day. I have been drooling over their 20″ LCD wide screen for about 6 months, and I finally had the opportunity to get one. I love it.

It has a max resolution of 1600X1200 and a great 16ms response time. It has 4 USB ports, digital and analog capability, S-video and composite connections. The base stand is sturdy and adjustable for different viewing angles, and the auto adjustments make the monitor easy to optimize for your system. Word to the wise, make sure that your video card can handle this much monitor…I have a two year old Toshiba laptop with a 64MB nVidia video card, and while the monitor looks great, it is not as crisp as it is on a colleagues laptop running an integrated Intel 900 video card. Oh well, it looks liked its time for a new laptop! I have been eyeing the Dell X1, the Acer C200, or the Dell 710.
